Yard Sales – Rules to Consider

When approaching a yard, walk slowly. Look disinterested. Scan around. Make eye contact with the sellers. Smile, wave or say hello. Stroll. Don’t bother picking up things of little interest. If the items are missing stickers, make up a fair price in your head.

Strategy: You can either ask “How much would you take for this?” or “Would you take (amount) for this?”

Jokes are a great icebreaker. When you find something you really like, that is listed at a fair price (let’s say it has a sticker for $1), say: “Would you take a dollar for this?” It makes all the other people who have tried to bicker for prices look “cheap” and makes you look friendly. If there are other things you’d like to buy, it will be much easier to get a lower price!
